A Behind-the-Scenes Look at my Experience as a Therapist
My professional journey began in substance use treatment, where I developed a deep appreciation for the resilience of individuals navigating difficult life circumstances. As my clinical experience has expanded, I have become increasingly passionate about supporting those experiencing grief and loss. I recognize that many people feel isolated in their grief or struggle to understand the complex emotions that accompany it, and I am committed to helping clients feel seen, supported, and understood throughout that journey.
I also have a special appreciation for working with older adults and their families, a population I have been connected to and supported throughout my life. Whether navigating life transitions, caregiving challenges, loss, or personal growth, I strive to create a space where clients feel valued, empowered, and never alone as they move through lifeās most difficult moments.Ā -Katherine Childres - Romines, CSW
A Memorable Success Story
A success story that stands out involved a client who entered therapy feeling dependent on others for support. Through consistent work, the client built confidence, learned effective coping strategies, and moved toward independence. Watching the client take ownership of their life and thrive as they embraced new opportunities was incredibly rewarding. -KatherineĀ
Maintaining Balance: How I Prioritize Well-Being to Serve Clients, Myself, and My Family
My personal approach to workālife balance focuses on intentional self-care and self-awareness. I make it a priority to allow myself time each day to decompress, even if it is just five minutes of quiet reflection. I also actively recognize my early signs of burnout and respond by taking time away from work and planning activities that I genuinely enjoy. Over the years, I have learned that I do not need to accomplish every task at once; instead, I allow myself time to learn from the process and appreciate the lessons as they emerge. This approach supports my own mental health and enables me to show up fully present and engaged for my clients.Ā -Katherine Childres - Romines, CSW
